Toppesfield Vineyard is a small boutique vineyard located in rural Essex that produces both white and rosé wine, from the Bacchus and Pinot Noir Fruhburgunder grape varieties. The vineyard was founded by Jane and Peter Moore, who had the opportunity to purchase the agricultural land located just next door to their home. Jane and Peter took inspiration from the history of the rolling hills and Roman vineyards that surround Toppesfield, and in 2012 began work on the site of the vineyard you see today.
Since 2016, Toppesfield Vineyard have won several commendations and awards for their wines, and were most recently awarded the gold award from the prestigious Sommelier Wine Awards for 2018. They are now supplying five stores across Essex with their range of wines, and also work with volunteers from Toppesfield and the surrounding communities to help out with their yearly grape harvest.
With community spirit in mind, Jane and Peter were conscious of using local businesses and trade in supporting the build of their new wine tasting showroom and shop. This new build is set to support Toppesfield Vineyards as they enter into a new phase of commercial supply and wine-tasting events, and as they experience substantial commercial growth.
Having visited the Lifestiles yard and spoken with our Co-Founder and Director Dave, Jane and Peter chose Lifestiles as the roof tile supplier of their new build wine tasting showroom and shop, and selected a sustainable product with the help and expertise of the Lifestiles team.
The tile chosen for this project was the Lifestiles Woburn range, Reclamation Mix of handmade clay roof tiles. This tile was initially created and supplied for this project, and has now been launched as one of our newest product ranges. The Woburn range was able to give Toppesfield Vineyard the same aesthetic appeal as the on-site Grade II listed building, but with all the advantages of a new, sustainable tile fitted onto a new build.
The tiles supplied were approved by the planners involved in the build, and work began on the build by Ridgewell- based D. Mason Developments. In collaboration with local roofing services provider Millgate Roofing, 18,000 tiles (approx. 300 square metres) of the Lifestiles Woburn range were supplied and installed at Toppesfield Vineyard in July 2018.

“The colour, style and overall quality of Lifestiles’ Woburn clay roof tiles is first-class, and we would not hesitate to recommend Lifestiles and their products.”
The finish of the building, which will house our new wine tasting showroom and shop, is very visually pleasing. It satisfies the need not only for a contemporary interior and sustainable exterior, but also enables us to achieve the same aesthetic appeal as the vernacular of the region’s countryside, and the Grade II* listed building just next door. We are very pleased with the result.”
